Solace by the Hillside

An Invitation to Deep Work and Deep Peace

Solace by the Hillside is not a commercial retreat or homestay. It is a carefully curated, non-commercial sanctuary located in a heritage village near downtown Bhaderwah, Jammu and Kashmir.

This space is my humble contribution toward unlocking India’s creative potential. Here, carefully selected writers, artists, entrepreneurs, leaders, and seekers are invited to disconnect from constant digital noise, engage in deep meaningful work, walk the Himalayan foothills, breathe clean mountain air, and explore practices that blend battlefield discipline, modern psychology, and timeless spiritual wisdom.

Stays at Solace are strictly by invitation only.

Creativity flows naturally
when the mind finds deep peace.

As Seen In

From Siachen to Solace: Army Veteran Suniel Parihar Creates a Haven for Thinkers, Writers and Innovators

In an Age of Noise, a Veteran Builds a Quiet Haven for Deep Thinking

Bhaderwah , Jammu & Kashmir
In a world increasingly dominated by speed, screens and surface level interactions, finding spaces for genuine reflection and creative depth has become rare. In the quiet hills of Bhaderwah, one retired army officer has chosen to create exactly that, not as a commercial venture, but as a deliberate act of offering.
Called Solace by the Hillside, the space is located in a heritage village near downtown Bhaderwah. It is offered strictly by invitation, a place where writers, thinkers, artists and professionals can spend time in an environment designed for deep work and inner stillness.

From Battlefield to Sanctuary
Suniel Parihar, who served for over two decades in the Indian Army including a tenure at the Siachen Glacier, has spent the years after his retirement walking a less conventional path. After moving through corporate roles and writing books that explore intelligence, leadership and inner transformation, he has now turned his attention to building a sanctuary where people can step away from the noise and reconnect with their own clarity.

The Value of Chosen Solitude
What makes this effort distinctive is the understanding that true creativity and clarity often require something that modern life rarely offers: the experience of chosen solitude. Unlike loneliness, which leaves a person feeling empty, solitude is a deliberate turning inward. Across traditions, it has been recognised as a necessary condition for deeper self-understanding and meaningful creation.

In an age of constant stimulation and fragmented attention, this capacity has become both rare and valuable. The sanctuary reflects this understanding. It is not designed around luxury or entertainment, but around conditions that support focus, meaningful conversation and creative renewal.

A Living Tradition
Parihar’s journey from the extreme conditions of Siachen to the quieter task of creating contemplative spaces follows a consistent thread: a search for environments where individuals can function with greater awareness and purpose. His earlier work, including books on intelligence and personal reinvention, explored similar themes.
Even today, the tradition of inner strength and discipline continues. Many young men and women from Bhaderwah serve with distinction in the Indian Armed Forces, carrying forward the proud heritage of the region.

As more people seek alternatives to constant stimulation and fragmented attention, initiatives like this raise an important question. What kind of environments do we need to think clearly and create meaningfully in today’s world? In the hills of Bhaderwah, one veteran has chosen to answer that question not with words alone, but by building a space that invites others to find their own.
